Another trial, 2016-06-20
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get install printer-driver-escpr
Then, add printer via Dash(?) -> Printers, add Network Printer, selecting Epson WF-7610 ... and choosing connection LPD/LPR queue 'PASSTHRU'.

Download epson-printer-utility_1.0.0-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i epson-printer-utility_1.0.0-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
New trial, 2016-06-20
The article says, lsb is not available anymore. (WTH is lsb anyway). So it tries to install it like so
sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu trusty main"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install lsb
sudo add-apt-repository -r "deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu trusty main"
This seemed to work, but what do I know.
I followed
New trial, 2016-06-20 until the point where I downloaded the rpm package, but this time, I downloaded the deb package instead.
Double clicking the deb file and clicking Install twice (!) seemed to install the package, but again: what do I know.
But then, I was unable to finish the installation.

Choose operating system Linux and click further through the links that make the most sense.
Accept license agreement.
Obviously, an LSB package (3.2 or higher) is also needed. However, sudo apt-get install LSB
reports Unable to locate LSB.
sudo alien -i epson-printer-utility-1.0.0-1lsb3.2.x86_64.rpm
Of course, this would not work, as so many times before.
Old Trials
System Settings -> Printers -> Add -> Network Printer -> Epson WF-7610 (192.168.1.xxx) / Connection = IPP network printer via DNS-SD.
This didn't seem work
Find driver on
Epson download center. It finds four entries, choose «All-in-one package», then «Package Download Page»
Finally, iscan-bundle-1.0.0.x64.deb.tar.gz
was downloaded.
tar -xvzf iscan-bundle-1.0.0.x64.deb.tar.gz
cd iscan-bundle-1.0.0.x64.deb/
sudo ./install.sh
This didn't seem to work, either
System Settings, Printer, find printer @ 192.168.1.xxx
Select device Epson WF-7610 (192.168.1.xxx)
Connection IPP network printer via DNS-SD. (What is the difference to LPD/LPR queue 'PASSTHRU' anyway).
Chose driver epson-escpr.
And this didn't work, either
Make sure lsb is installed: apt-get install lsb
Search for WF-7610 / Linux.
Choose ESC/P-R Driver (generic driver).
Download epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.6.4-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb.
sudo dpkg -i epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.6.4-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
