Vim - indenting text

Four methods, ordered from rudimentary to most flexible:

• autoindent
• smartindent
• cindent
• indentexpr (which seems to be set indirectly via :filetype indent on)

The more flexible overrides the more rudimentary if multiple methods are »enabled«.

Options that are relevant in conjunction with indenting text:

• autoindent
• cindent
• expandtab
• indentexpr
• indentkeys
• shiftwidth
• softtabstop
• smarttab
• tabstop
