SQL Server: dynamic management views and functions

Dynamic management views and functions allow a DBA to check the health and state of an SQL Server instance and its databases.

In order to query instance related information, the view server state permission is required, for database related information, the view database state.

The names of dynamic manamagement views and functions start with the prefix dm_ and belong to the sys schema, see dm_* views and dm_* functions.
