Blutserum besteht aus

• Wasser (91 %)
• Proteinen (7 %)
• Elektrolyten
• Nährstoffe
• Abfallstoffen (z. B. Harnstoff)
• Hormonen

Die Proteinanteile sind:

• Albumin (62 %, Reserveeiweiss)
• γ-Globulin (17 %, Immunabwehr)
• β-Globulin (9 %, Eisen- und Lipidtransport)
• α₂-Globulin (7 %, Eisen- und Kupfertransport)
• α₁-Globulin (3 %, Lipidtransport)
