SAS: Metadata server

A metadata server is a centralized repository that stores, manages and delivers metadata for SAS applications within an organization.
Because it's a central instance, all users can benefit from consistent data.
Thus, the metadata server is used by SAS applications to determine which SAS resources are available and can be accessed.
The Metadata Server uses the SAS Open Metadata Architecture and the Common Warehouse Metamodel (CWM).
The default port for the metadata server is 8561.

Metadata objects

A metadata object describes a resource (such as a report) by assigning values to certain attributes.
A metadata server can store objects such as
With such metadata, it's also possible to control who (which user) can access what data.

Open Metadata Architecture (OMA)

The OMA aspires to be the single, central point of access for all information needed within a SAS environment.
Part of this API seems to be an the open metadata interface API that allows to access the Metadata Server so that third parties can write applications to access the Metadata Server

Managing the metadata server

The metadata server can be managed with the SAS Management Console.
